The Ten Things You Should Know
After Getting Arrested

1. Do not discuss your case with anyone other than your lawyer. Not even your friends, family, members, or cellmates. What you say can be used against you.

2. Do not call or make any contact with any law enforcement agency, District Attorney, or City Attorney without first consulting with your Attorney. Police often make promises that they cannot or have no intention of keeping. This is not illegal. Do not fall for their traps.

3. Immediately identify and locate any potential witnesses that may have any information that will help your lawyer.

4. If contacted by any law enforcement investigation, immediately and politely refuse to answer any questions without your lawyer present.

5. Never consent to any search or turn over anything to law enforcement without consulting with your lawyer first.

6. Lay low and stay away from any situation that can lead you to catching other charges while your current case is pending. If you have any priors attempt to have them expunged.

7. In any criminal case there are many issues that should be examined. This can lead to a favorable disposition or dismissal of all charges against you if you have a lawyer that is aggressive and knows how to work within the system.

8. Once charges are filed, you will be prosecuted by the government. Make no mistake about it, the government has excellent experienced lawyers who are committed to work against you, which may include sending you to jail.
9. Everything you tell your lawyer is confidential and will not be used against you. Be truthful and communicate thoroughly with your lawyer.
